Liebster Award!

Liebster Award!

The lovely Claire who writes the blog Almost Skinny Vegan Food has tagged me to be part of the Liebster awards. Thanks for including me in the fun Claire!

The Liebster Award supposedly stems from the German word for Liebster, which is dearest. It has 5 parts:
  1. Write 11 random facts about yourself.
  2. Answer the 11 interview questions you’ve been given by the person who nominated you.
  3. Create 11 new questions.
  4. Nominate 11 bloggers and mention them in your post.
  5. Go and tell the person who nominated you, along with the people you’ve nominated about your post.
11 Random Facts about me
  1. I'm left-handed! Left-handers are supposedly more prone to migraines and insomnia - both of which I must admit have been part of my life! Also the theory says that means the nails on my left hand grow faster than on my right hand! I guess that is true too now that I think about it!
  2. Talking about nails - I can't remember the last time I broke one! They seem to just grow and grow and I actually have to cut them when they get too long! (I bet I break one this week now ;-) lol)
  3. I didn't get my ears pierced til my 16th birthday! My mother wouldn't let me when I was younger but after many years of asking she finally let me and took me for my birthday day out!
  4. I have my belly button pierced! I don't reveal it (other than swimming in a bikini) but I do love it!
  5. My favourtie food is dates. Yep that's right - medjool dates, not chocolate or ice-cream. Just dates!
  6. My favourite flower is a gardenia. I just LOVE the smell of them so much.
  7. I can play the piano! But I don't do it very often.
  8. I work from home 2-3 days a week. Contrary to popular belief its not "the easy life" - its really quite hard & lonely!
  9. I love French cars and dream of owning a Citroen C5 one day..... one day!
  10. I'm addicted to coffee. I only have one a day but I'm a bear with a sore head without that one!
  11. I LOVE craft! Any type really! I especially love sewing and doing papercrafts.
  12. As you can probably work out - I'm ~VERY~ passionate about health. It saddens me that so many people don't realise how important our food choices are for our long-term well-being & just how many diseases can be avoided or cured with the right dietary choices.
Claire's Questions
  1. Are you allergic to anything?   --> I believe I'm allergic to crustaceans. I have never had any proper testing done but my skin used to react if I even touched them! Thankfully that doesn't bother me anymore anyway ;-)
  2. Can you stick to a recipe? do you?   --> hahahahaa! Rarely! I always like to read a recipe but then do my own thing anyway. That said, I am getting better at properly re-creating recipes lately!
  3. If you could hire a personal chef what would you request?   --> A 10 course vegan meal that was healthy with lots of different finger foods for test-tasting..... oh wait - could I request that they come back each day?!?!?
  4. Are you comfortable within your body? If not why?   --> That depends which day you ask me - today, Yes! :-)
  5. What's your favourite unusual form of exercise?   --> I have a friend who comes over once a week and we do random exercise together, anything from boxing to doing an exercise dvd or following fitness apps! Is that unusal or just random?!?!?
  6. If you could create your perfect classroom/teacher what would they entail?   --> No homework given!
  7. What do you think of when you hear PhD?   --> Uni, boring, waste of time!
  8. Do you buy cook books without photos? why/why not?   --> I have several cookbooks without photos but I always prefer the ones with pictures in them. Not necessarily pictures for every recipe but got to have some.
  9. What is your preferred artistic medium? drawing/painting/photography/sculpture/food/jewellery/textiles etc.   --> Do I really have to decide just one??? I LOVE sewing, but I also love to paint, and I also love to make cards, and I also love to make jewellery. Depends on my mood and the amount of time I have as to what I 'prefer' to do!
  10. What was the last gift you gave that made you smile?   --> I love giving gifts! I really enjoyed our daughter's birthday in October & seeing her excitement at opening her lego box to see a cool set she hadn't even seen before!
  11. Do you shop at op shops/charity shops? why or why not?   --> I have in the past but not recently. I think it depends on the area - some op shops have great buys & others just seem to be other people's 'junk'.

  1. Thanks so much for playing Sandy! and thank you for being so nice :) I loved learning more about you- I'm a lefty too!

I don't know if it counts but I'm really proud I got through my honours degree intact- it was the hardest year of my life both personally and academically and I got a degree at the end of it so that counts as an award right?... well maybe.

  3. I totally feel you on #12. I hate seeing people that just keep perpetuating a downward spiral of health because of their food choices. I just want to scream YOU CAN CHANGE! Haha. Not that there's anything wrong with have junk food every now and again, but TEN pieces of pizza is definitely not the way to exercise "balance."

I never stick to recipes. I can't remember a time when I didn't change something. Now, that could be as little as using less salt or dried herbs in place of fresh, or to the extreme of replacing the oil with applesauce, the flour with gluten-free flour, the chocolate chips with blueberries, the sugar with stevia... Eh. You get the picture ;)

  4. Hi Sandy, thanks so much for nominating me for the Liebster! I actually received this award last year and passed it around then so I won't pass it around again now.

Instead, I'll share a few things we do have in common. I'm also a lefty but didn't know about the migraine link with left-handers, I've suffered from them a lot in recent years. I've been working from home full-time for the last 3 years, I prefer it to working in an office as there is no commuting and I have my cat and dog for company, communication with management can be a challenge at times though. I'm a coffee addict too, I usually only have one a day but it needs to be a decent coffee and if I don't get my dose I'm not a happy person.

    1. No worries at all! I didn't see your Liebster last year - I'll have to go and check out the post now!

We do have a bit in common! I agree that having pets makes working from home better :-)
I do fall into the coffee snob category just a bit lol ;-)
